how far is my communte to work? how far is the walk to my friend’s house?

Google Pedometer (no good in Safari, but it works in Firefox on a Mac). The default location is Hoboken, NY so you’ll need to zoom out of the map, drag it to your location then zoom in. nb. This map takes distances as the crow flies, so you’ll need to follow road routes to get an accurate reading.

This came from Derek Miller at Penmachine.

From Signal vs. Noise

“Some Viagra users reporting blindness, or, if you’re in the PR industry, “We are in discussions with the FDA to update our language to reflect these rare ocular events that have occurred” (Pfizer spokesman Daniel Watts).”

A blog comment from his story:

“My favorite example of this comes from truly terrible CRM software I was charged with installing and managing years ago (I’ve blocked the name). Whenever the system would choke and generate an error (many times a day), the title bar on the error box read “Application Enhancement Opportunity!”
(Eventually we gave the vendor the “opportunity” to avoid a lawsuit by refunding our money.)”

unuseless inventions

“You have a mat, and it’s got some conclusions written on it, and you back up next to the mat, and think about a question, and then you jump to a conclusion. Right there on the mat, you jump to a conclusion…” - Tom Smykowski

the issue of expansion of Highway #1 in Vancouver was below my radar until I saw a poster about it on a telephone poll on Commerical Drive. From the tone of most articles it sounds like the Government of BC is not forthcoming with much information - even the city of Vancouver is asking the Gov’t questions.

food for thought if you plan to buy property adjacent major routes through East Van: East 1st Ave, East 12th Ave and Hastings Street.

at last! a useable, fast, and almost-totally-stable news aggregator for Linux — liferea (li[nux] fe[ed] rea[der]). it supports RSS/RDF, CDF, Atom, OCS, and OPML; as well as import/export of OPML 1.0. why not stable? it crashed when i tried to use HTTP Authentication. ah, c’est la vie linux.
